Amarillo, Texas – At the Amarillo Airport John Thomas saw his youngest daughters Robin and Amber after five years apart. This reunion is possible┬ábecause of Odyssey Healthcare and the Dream Foundation, which helps make dying wishes come true. Jan Thompson of Odyssey Healthcare says, “These two daughters have not been home in 5 1/2 years. And so, this is basically his dying wish.” John has terminal cancer. Earlier today in Estelline, he and his wife of 23 years, Jody, eagerly anticipated the reunion. Jody Thomas says, “This is the best thing that could happen to us. And he has been on Cloud Nine ever since.” Jody is the City Secretary in Estelline. A nurse at the hospice recommended the Dream Foundation to her. It was supposed to be a surprise to John. John says, “A lady called on the telephone and she’s quizzing me about it. I said you need to talk to my wife. I don’t know what you’re talking about. She says you don’t know anything about this? I said no ma’am. She said oops!” “He sat down and cried. He sat down and cried. he said, I can’t believe they did this,” says Jody. John has┬álived in Estelline most of his life. The 60-year-old Vietnam Vet is a former Marine and a longtime ranchhand. He says mostly he cowboyed. Seeing his daughters, probably for the last time, has given him great joy.
