Biography
Mr. Bailey received his B.A. with high honors from Millsaps College, Jackson, Mississippi, in 1986 and his J.D. from Vanderbilt University School of Law in 1989. He is an alumnus of the Institute for Comparative Political and Economic Systems at Georgetown University, in Washington, D.C., and the London School of Economics, in London, England.
Mr. Bailey's professional associations include the American Bar Association (Real Property, Probate & Trust Section), Mississippi Bar Association, Memphis Estate Planning Council, Planned Giving Council of Greater Memphis and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys.
Mr. Bailey is an active participant in community affairs.
While a resident of Jackson, Mississippi, he was a mayoral appointee to the City of Jackson Planning Board serving as Chairperson of the Zoning Committee and of the Capital Improvements Plan Committee from 1991 to 1994. He was a member of the Millsaps College Alumni Council, served on the Board of Trustees of the National Kidney Foundation of Mississippi, and was selected to serve on the Board of Directors of the Fondren Civitan Club. Mr. Bailey served on the Board and was elected President of his neighborhood association, Fondren-Cherokee Heights Neighborhood Association, Inc.
After his relocation to Memphis, Mr. Bailey was elected to serve as a member of the Board of Directors of the West Tennessee Branch and the Tennessee Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation. In 1998, he was appointed as Chairperson of the Planned Giving/Major Gifts Committee for the Tennessee Chapter. For 5 years, he represented the TN Chapter at the National Arthritis Foundation's Annual Planned Giving Conferences. In 1999, he was appointed to serve for a two (2) year term as Chairperson of the West Tennessee Branch Board of Directors of the Arthritis Foundation.
Mr. Bailey served as the 2002-2003 President of the East Memphis Exchange Club and was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Exchange Club Family Center. He also was elected to serve as a member of, and provide charitable giving advice to, the Board of Directors of the Bird Dog Foundation.
In 2001, Mr. Bailey was selected by the Memphis Business Journal as one of the Mid-South's Top 40 Under 40.
He has written articles for, and his advice has appeared in, the Commercial Appeal, the Memphis Business Journal, the Best Times, and the American Bar Association Probate & Property Journal.
He is a frequent lecturer and presenter on estate planning issues to attorneys, accountants, financial planners and other professionals and to individuals in need of estate planning services.
