The city of Livonia is a senior-friendly community of just over 100,000 people. The city is known for its promotion of life-long learning and culture, with six Universities and one College within city limits, as well as 62 houses of worship. One in every four persons in Livonia is over the age of 65, and the median family income is 31% above the national average.

Woodhaven is the only facility of its kind in Livonia, MI. It has been in business since 1987, and operates as a faith-based non-profit under the guidance of the Apostolic Christian Churches of Livonia, Alto, Bay City, Michigan, and Toledo (Ohio).
Compared to other detroit nursing homes, Woodhaven has several unique qualities:
- Christian Retirement Community - All faiths are welcome at Woodhaven, and the non-profit has direct oversight from the Apostolic Christian Church. Worship services are offered weekly, and employees & boardmembers pray for the residents and facility on a regular basis.
- Staff Longevity - Most senior care facilities have high employee turnover. Woodhaven has many staffers who have been with them for multiple decades, allowing them to build strong relationships between residents and caregivers.
- Small Size - Woodhaven limits the size of its community to 30 residents in each house, so staffers are able to tend to residents quickly and give personal attention.
We'd love to have you as our guest for breakfast, lunch or dinner, and to tour the facilities. Contact our admissions administrator at gloriag@woodhavenrc.org, and we can work around your schedule.
Woodhaven's Adult Day Service is the only program of its kind in all of Michigan. Since 1991, we've been open every single day to serve the needs of our client families, and to provide outstanding elderly care in Livonia and the Detroit area. The local Area Agency on Aging has recognized Woodhaven as a significant resource for older adults in Western Wayne County, and has directed Older Americans Act funding to our program.
Woodhaven boasts some of the lowest levels of staff turnover in the industry. Staff is assigned to the same residents each time they work. This consistency helps our employees to build strong, trusting relationships with our residents, so that they will feel more secure, comfortable, and receive better, personalized care and attention. Staff often becomes intimately acquainted with family members, often developing friendships that last long after the resident is no longer at Woodhaven.
We are non-profit and faith-based, with sponsorship from the Apostolic Christian Churches of Alto, Bay City, Livonia and Toledo. These churches provide board leadership, volunteer services and financial support. As a faith-based corporation, Woodhaven offers many opportunities to praise and honor God through vesper services, hymn sings and Bible studies. Residents also benefit from day trips, parties, games and lots of entertainment.
Every day, we talk to a lot of families who are looking to place their loved ones in an assisted living facility to receive skilled nursing care. "The number of options is overwhelming!" they tell us, and maybe you feel the same way.
Different retirement communities can handle different services, from independent living housing and apartments, to memory services, Alzheimer's care, rehabilitation services (such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy), partial-day adult care services, and more.
So many questions. How do they coordinate with my loved one's primary physician? Can they work with Medicade, Medicare, and private Insurance? Is there funding assistance through the Older American Act and other sources? Is there a strong community life, and accommodations for my loved one's religious beliefs? Is there appropriate licensing for all Nursing? Home life is important, so is now the right time to find new living arrangements, and am I finding a place where my loved one will feel happy and comfortable?
We want to help you with the challenge of exploring your options for senior care and finding the best for your loved ones. That's why we've created a new resource that can answer your questions, and give you the tools you need to make an informed decision.
To get the free guide to senior care, simply visit the Woodhaven Assisted Living website and fill out the yellow form on the right side of the page. You'll get immediate access to the first of our resource series.
And of course, we're always available to talk with you directly and answer your questions. Or, be our guests for breakfast, lunch or dinner at our facility, and we can discuss face-to-face.
