South Boston Neighborhood House
Programs and services for South Boston’s senior population have been a Neighborhood House hallmark since the early 1940’s.

South Boston Neighborhood House Senior Programs are located in the John T. “Doc” and Mary Tynan Senior Center in our main building at 136 H Street in South Boston. Programs and services for South Boston’s senior population have been a Neighborhood House hallmark since the early 1940’s when a group of women asked to begin a mothers’ club in our original home at 521 East Seventh Street.
Today, our Senior Program is a full-time program that brings together neighborhood seniors, both men and women, in a unique and personal community space. Here older adults find services and activities that reflect their interests, experiences and skills; educate them in senior related issues; support their health and independence; and encourage their involvement in the community.
One of our most popular and important service areas focuses on enhancing the physical well-being of our seniors through exercise, dance, nutrition and yoga classes. The Neighborhood House Senior Center collaborates with the Boston Athletic Club to offer Swim Aerobics and Senior Strut classes at the BAC, while here at the Neighborhood House, on-site classes include Osteoporosis Prevention Weight Strengthening and Exercise three times per week and weekly Yoga and Zumba Gold classes.
The South Boston Neighborhood House John T. “Doc” and Mary Tynan Senior Center is located at 136 H Street in South Boston. The facility is handicapped accessible, equipped with central AC, a large common room, an activity room, a full kitchen and limited off street parking. The space is also available to rent for private functions; please call for details.
