Traditional Long-Term Care
River Garden serves people with ongoing care needs in a gracious residential setting. Each resident is offered a continuum of choices; from the privacy of one’s own room to full public spaces encouraging the easy mingling of residents, families and visitors. The out-of-doors is easily visible and accessible. This environment supports sophisticated clinical services, but is characterized by its residential nature.
Quality of life is our priority. The care team not only focuses on medical care but on levels of participation, as well as the cultural and traditional values of our residents. We regularly critique the effectiveness and quality of activities offered in order to develop and facilitate programs based on the cognitive and physical level of residents. Recognizing the importance of treating the whole person, that physical, emotional, mental and spiritual needs must be met, we also have a full time chaplain available to all residents, family members and staff..
Sheltered Care
Sheltered Care is a dementia specific unit that specializes in Alzheimer’s and other dementias. This specialized Unit provides a compassionate, supportive and therapeutic environment for residents diagnosed with dementia. Residents participate in a variety of activities and social programs to meet their special needs. The design of Sheltered Care allows for maximum freedom for residents, including access to an outdoor terrace, in a gracious, secure setting.
Sheltered Care provides:
• Secure unit
• State-of-the-art Wander Protection system

The need for long-term care may develop over a period of months or years, but a little planning and preparation can help ease the process of admission. River Garden accepts applications for admission up to 18 months in advance, enabling us to be there for you when you need us.

Respite Care
River Garden provides caregiver relief through the Respite Care program. This program allows informal cargivers, children, spouses and friends to be absent for a pre-determined amount of time to take care of personal needs or to take a well-deserved rest. The care needs of the individual are met by River Garden staff during this short-stay admission to the Home.
River Garden takes pride in serving all residents and their needs in order to help them live out their life with caring and dignity. Often that care extends to the end of life.
River Garden’s End-of-Life Care enables families to be engaged in the care of their loved ones who are dying or who have a clinical diagnosis suggesting a poor prognosis. River Garden’s clinical team, under the direction of two full-time physicians, is specially trained in managing all aspects of our residents’ needs when they are nearing the end of life.
This continuation of our already excellent care enables our residents to remain within the familiarity of their current setting and receive care from caregivers who already know their needs. We believe it is especially important for residents who have lived with us and have formed relationships with our care staff to be able to continue to live in the comfort of their own “home” here at River Garden.
