YCCOM...You Can Count on Me! (Hospice care and services in Charleston, SC)
Serving All People During The End Of Life’s Journey

We improve the quality of life for patients facing life limiting illnesses and provide support for their loved ones. We’ve been meeting this need since 1996. Our team of caregivers includes registered nurses, physicians, hospice healthcare aides, social workers, chaplains, bereavement counselors and trained volunteers.
We believe patients and their loved ones should not be alone during the end of life’s journey and our dedicatedstaff is available to provide palliative care, pain and symptom relief to the patient, and spiritual and psychosocial support for both the patient and their loved ones.
Patients typically receive our services in their own homes or in nursing homes, assisted living facilities and hospitals. The commitment and spirit of Odyssey team members who provide care and support 24-hours a day/seven days a week is embodied in a simple phrase that team members wear on their badges: YCCOM:
You Can Count On Me!
When a patient’s physician certifies that hospice care is appropriate, one of Odyssey HealthCare’s nurses will admit the patient to our program within three hours – 24 hours a day/seven days a week. The nurse and an Odyssey physician who specializes in understanding and treating pain will develop a plan of care to ease discomforting symptoms.
Odyssey serves patients without regard to gender, national origin, race, creed, sexual orientation, disability, age or place of residence. Locally in South Carolina since 2001, Odyssey provides service to Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, and Dorchester Counties.
Medicare, Medicaid, and most insurance programs cover hospice services, and Odyssey will provide care for many patients who do not have the ability to pay. In addition to the comprehensive and compassionate care provided to patients and loved ones, Odyssey contributes more than $5 million per year to the communities we serve.
Estelline man gets dying wish
by Larry Lemmons NewsChannel 10 Amarillo, Texas - At the Amarillo Airport John Thomas saw his youngest daughters Robin and Amber after five years apart. This reunion is possible because of Odyssey Healthcare and the Dream Foundation, which helps make dying wishes come true. Jan Thompson of Odyssey Healthcare says, "These two daughters have not been home in 5 1/2 years. And so, this is basically his dying wish." John has terminal cancer. Earlier today in Estelline, he and his wife of 23 years, Jody, eagerly anticipated the reunion. Jody Thomas says, "This is the best thing that could happen to us. And he has been on Cloud Nine ever since." Jody is the City Secretary in Estelline. A nurse at the hospice recommended the Dream Foundation to her. It was supposed to be a surprise to John. John says, "A lady called on the telephone and she's quizzing me about it. I said you need to talk to my wife. I don't know what you're talking about. She says you don't know anything about this? I said no ma'am. She said oops!" "He sat down and cried. He sat down and cried. he said, I can't believe they did this," says Jody. John has lived in Estelline most of his life. The 60-year-old Vietnam Vet is a former Marine and a longtime ranchhand. He says mostly he cowboyed. Seeing his daughters, probably for the last time, has given him great joy.
