NHC is a 207 bed licensed health care facility, designed to provide skilled, intermediate and respite care. Rehabilitative services including physical therapy, speech therapy and occupational therapy are provided at the center, on an out patient basis and in the patient's home. NHC provides social services to assist a patient and a patient's family in selecting and planning for the appropriate type of care.
Skilled Care refers to extended inpatient hospital-type care requiring the expertise of licensed medical personnel or therapist on a daily basis.
Sub-acute care is a very high level of care provided by NHC that offers a step-down unit for patients who have been in intensive care. Patients severely injured in automobile accidents, with spinal cord injuries, or with other trauma injuries benefit from NHC's intensively caring and highly skilled approach to treatment. The sub-acute care at NHC includes specialized care such as rehabilitation and pain management. The environment at NHC is more like home and much less stressful than at other healthcare facilities. This is beneficial to both patients and their families.
Planning and careful coordination of rehabilitative therapies can begin at NHC early in the patient's care. The healing and rehabilitative process is improved by the teamwork and interaction among NHC's skilled nursing staff and multi-disciplined therapists.
Our purpose is to improve each patient’s quality of life by providing physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and respiratory therapy. Through teamwork with your physician, we create a plan to rehabilitate and improve physical, mental and emotional health. Our goal is to return each patient to the highest level of rehabilitation and to return the patient home when possible.
Our skilled nursing care and four types of rehabilitative therapy are coordinated and delivered by a caring team of skilled therapists and dedicated support staff. At NHC Chattanooga, we are prepared to meet the patient’s needs at each stage of the rehabilitation process.
In addition to the traditional leisure activities such as fitness classes, religious services, arts, or crafts, NHC offers innovative activities such as outings on our handicap bus. Outings are taken to the Tennessee Aquarium, Chattanooga Nature Center, Senior Olympics, various restaurants, etc.
The activities director plans a wide variety of programs and social functions. Cooking, gardening and other activities that patients enjoy are often included in rehabilitation programs
Aside from the planned group activities, dayrooms are available for you to reserve through the Activity Department if you would like to have a birthday party or a family gathering. An in-room program is designed specifically for patients who can not participate in the group activities.
