Generations Home Care, Inc.
Generations Home Care is committed to providing exceptional care for our patients in order to promote their independence, improve their quality of life and help them remain in the comfort of home.
Why Generations Home Care?
According to an estimate from MetLife, approximately 60 to 70 percent of people over the age of 65 will require long-term care services in their lifetime.
When family and friends can no longer meet the needs of their loved one, home health care is often their first choice among long-term care options. A cost-effective alternative to assisted living or nursing home care, home health care gives the patient a greater sense of security and independence while their families enjoy the peace of mind of knowing that their loved one is receiving the highest quality care.

Generations Home Care is a private, not-for-profit home health agency that has been providing care and assistance to the people of Delaware, regardless of their ability to pay, for over 40 years. It is our mission to provide care from skilled and reliable professionals so that our patients, whether they are recuperating from a short-term disability or living with a chronic health condition, can remain in the familiar surroundings of home.
Our staff offer the experience and expertise needed to allow our patients to maintain independence without ever compromising safety or quality of care. We are dedicated to educating both the patient and their family about their illness, injury or disease, as their understanding and participation is critical to ensuring that the patient receives the best care possible.
Generations Home Care is fully certified by Medicare, Medicaid and the state of Delaware. We offer a full range of services, including home health care, adult foster care, housekeeping and companion services and medical and disabled transportation designed to improve quality of life and support the independence of those in our care. Funding for these services comes from a variety of sources, including the Division of Services for Aging and Adults with Physical Disabilities.
Our Services
Generations Home Care offers a full range of services designed to improve the quality of life and support the independence of those in our care.
Home Health Care
Generations Home Care offers a full range of skilled nursing services as well as physical and occupational therapy that are delivered in the comfort and privacy of the patient’s home. Every patient receives a personalized plan of care that is directed by the patient’s physician.
Home health care is available on a short- or long-term basis and can be a good choice for patients with many different types of needs. Our services can assist patients through the recovery process as they heal from surgery or injury. They can also provide help for individuals who are living with challenges of aging such as loss of memory or decision-making skills, difficulty maintaining balance or inability to perform daily personal care tasks or household duties.

Skilled Nursing Care
Working together with the patient’s physician and family caregivers, Generations’ registered nurses can provide a wide range of medical services in the home following a standardized disease management clinical pathway, including:
- Management of disease process
- Monitoring of vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, body temperature and weight
- Assessment of activities of daily living
- Organizing, administering and tracking daily medications
- Measuring and administering injections
- Wound care and changing dressings
- Nutrition assessment
- Safety assessment
- Community resource referrals
These services play an important role in helping patients and their families manage the effects and symptoms of life-changing medical conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, cancer, heart disease and diabetes.
Physical Therapy
Physical therapy can help patients maintain their independence by regaining mobility. Those who can benefit from physical therapy include individuals who have suffered a stroke, are recovering from bone fracture or joint replacement surgery or have a chronic condition that interferes with mobility, such as Parkinson’s disease.
Generations’ certified physical therapists work with patients to improve strength, coordination, range of motion and balance. Therapies are designed to help patients:
- Walk on level surfaces or climb stairs
- Move in and out of bed safely
- Use a wheelchair, walker or cane effectively
- Adjust to the use of a prosthetic device
- Improve posture
- Minimize strain on joints and muscles
- Learn how to prevent falls
- Perform light exercise
- Manage pain
Occupational Therapy
Often patients who are recovering from stroke, illness or other injury find it more difficult to perform daily activities that were once routine – tasks such as eating, bathing, grooming and dressing. Occupational therapy supports these patients in their desire to remain living independently at home by helping them regain the ability to perform these tasks.
Generations’ occupational therapists come to the patient’s home, helping them improve motor skills necessary to perform such activities as dressing and eating. These therapists can also provide equipment and teach the patient techniques that make it easier and safer to perform these tasks with their changing abilities.
Personal Care Services
Generations’ certified home health aides assist patients with the daily tasks that are necessary to maintaining their independence and remaining in their own homes.
Through our personal care services, patients receive help with everyday tasks including:
- Personal hygiene
- Grooming
- Bathing
- Shaving
- Oral care
- Dressing
These services can be provided regardless of whether the patient requires in-home medical care. We work together with our patients’ families to determine a schedule and program of services that best meets their needs.
Generations Adult Foster Care
Generations Home Care is the only home health care agency in Delaware that offers adult foster care, a cost-effective alternative to placement in an assisted living facility or nursing home.
As part of this program, sponsors open their homes and their hearts to those who can no longer live independently and whose family members are unable to serve as caregivers on a daily basis. Sponsors and clients become like family, and it is not unusual for clients to participate in the sponsoring family’s activities and trips.
Generations Home Care carefully screens and selects only the most qualified and caring individuals to serve as adult foster care sponsors. These sponsors are then thoroughly trained to provide proper care and assistance for elderly and disabled individuals.
Long-term Placement
Long-term placement is for individuals who need minimal personal assistance on an ongoing basis and who do not have a family member who can serve as their primary caregiver. Our Adult Foster Care program sponsors provide room, board and companionship as well as assistance with errands, transportation, medication reminders and nutrition management.
Short-term Placement
If a family member needs relief from their caregiving responsibilities on a temporary basis – such for travel or work – their loved one can be placed with an Adult Foster Care sponsor for up to three months.
Emergency Placement
In the event that a family member is unable to provide care due to their own urgent medical needs, their loved one can be placed with an Adult Foster Care sponsor for up to one month while their primary caregiver recovers.
Is Adult Foster Care Right for My Loved One?
If your loved one meets the following qualifications, adult foster care may be a good alternative to assisted living:
- Demonstrates appropriate community contact
- Is ambulatory
- Is continent
- Can feed themselves
- Can take prescription medication with supervision
- Does not abuse alcohol or other substances
