Jacksonville Florida Senior Retirement Living at Emeritus at Southpoint
Programs & Services Offered:
Retirement Living, Assisted Living, Alzheimer's and Memory Care, Short Stay / Respite Care, On-Site Rehabilitation
"We have promised ourselves that we shall always treat our residents as we would our own loved ones. Nothing less than our best will do."
This is a simple promise that the staff at Emeritus at Southpoint - and throughout Emeritus Senior Living communities - has shared since 1971, when our community first opened its doors. It's a simple promise to be compassionate and kind, understanding and respectful - a promise to become extended family to the seniors entrusted in our care and to our retirees who have chosen our community for its active lifestyle.
The Perfect Location
Our community is centrally located in Jacksonville in an area called Southpoint, just off J. Turner Butler Blvd. and steps away from St. Luke’s Hospital. Gate Parkway W literally ends at a nearby corner, and St. Johns Town Center, Jacksonville’s newest shopping destination, is just a few miles from our community. Jacksonville Airport and Jacksonville Beach are also a quick 20-minute drive.
As our residents often say, our location is “fantastic!” Just a few miles away, the new St. Johns Town Center offers 1.1 million square feet of shopping and dining, including Targets and Dillards, as well as many new unique stores not available anywhere else in Jacksonville. St. Luke’s Hospital is just steps away, and Memorial Hospital is a quick 7-minute drive. Baptist Hospital is also close by. Various nursing homes and doctor offices are also in the immediate vicinity. Because we are so centrally located, we can easily take residents wherever they want to go. Recent trips have included excursions to our local Farmer’s Market, the Jacksonville Zoo, local alligator farm, San Sebastian Winery in St. Augustine, Museum of Science and History, Museum of Contemporary Art and Greater Jacksonville Agricultural Fair, as well as to many restaurants throughout the area. Transportation in our own vans is provided.
A Wonderful Selection
Emeritus at Southpoint offers 63 studio apartments and can accommodate a total of 102 residents. There are three different floor plans to choose from, including a standard suite and deluxe suite. Our largest floor plan is perfect as a “Friendship Suite,” in which two people share accommodations – a great option for residents looking to save money or in need of companionship – while still receiving all of the same services. Residents can make their apartments comfortable and homey by bringing in their own furniture and adding their own creative touches. And small pets under 10 pounds are welcome.
Our single-story community has many comfortable, cozy common areas, including a living room decorated in traditional florals, burgundies, greens and creams; a library; activities room; media room with plaid couches, wing-back chairs and wide-screen television/DVD; dining room; interior sun room; and beauty salon. We also offer two courtyards, including a covered patio with a grassy area and comfortable seats, and a back patio outside of our dining room, with wooden top tables. The front of our community is framed with a fully covered veranda, fountain, small pond and Ficus trees.
Strong, Caring Professional Relationships
Our community provides on-site physical, occupational and speech therapy, Monday through Friday, with some residents receiving services every day, while others as needed. Services are provided in the privacy of one of our apartments, enabling the therapists to work with residents in the same environment in which they live. Since the therapists are here full time, they are able to develop great relationships with residents. They typically go to the resident’s apartment and bring him or her to the appointment. We also have a few physicians that visit residents right here at our community. And we have good relationships with nearby skilled nursing facilities and can refer residents as necessary.
Our Staff
Approximately 30 full-time and 25 part-time staff members work at Emeritus at Southpoint, including Resident Assistants, staff LPNs, a Resident Care Director, Med Techs and Certified Nursing Assistants. Many of our staff members have been here between 5 and 10 years, including our Maintenance Director, Life Enrichment Director, Memory Care Director, several Resident Assistants and one of our housekeepers.
Assisted Living Services
We are especially proud to be a member of the Emeritus family of assisted living communities and adhere to the Emeritus brand promise, “Our family is committed to yours.” Every day, we live the Emeritus values, which include “I welcome, smile and greet everyone I have contact with; I am a good listener and I communicate honestly with others...
Alzheimer's and Dementia Care Services
Emeritus at Southpoint partners with a local neurologist, who specializes in brain health and Alzheimer’s. He serves as our Medical Consultant for “Join Their Journey®,” a unique memory care program in which we essentially join our residents’ journey in life. If a resident is not ready for breakfast at 7 a.m., we let them sleep until they are ready to get up.

A Wonderful Active Lifestyle
In addition to our great staff, some of whom have been here for more than 10 years, we believe it is our residents who make Emeritus at Southpoint such a special place to live. They are extremely welcoming and are often overheard saying, “You are going to love it here, you should move in,” when potential new residents take tours. It’s their warm and inviting attitude, combined with the caring attention of our staff, which gives our community its home-like, down-to-earth atmosphere.
Our schedule is packed each week with a wide range of activities, including bingo, card games, crochet and baking clubs, musical entertainment, Bible studies, two different church services weekly, manicures on site and much more. Our active Residents Council ensures that residents have a voice in deciding what our community offers. We also provide chair aerobics three times a week and bring in various experts to lead health and wellness programs. Recently, we had a program during which our residents participated in games and activities designed to stimulate good brain health. Our “Feelings with Anne” group gives residents an opportunity to share their thoughts and feelings in a safe, structured environment. Our residents also celebrate the holidays in style, including Halloween parties with costume contests and a major Christmas celebration held earlier in December for family and friends. And of course, we recognize Assisted Living Week, recently sponsoring our own community Senior Olympics. During this fun and busy week, we had a carnival, talent show, dance and antique car show – all right here at Emeritus at Southpoint.
Partnering with the Local Community
Our Life Enrichment Director has set up an Inter-generational program in which our residents visit local daycare centers every other month. And children from local schools visit our community, especially during such special times as Halloween.
Emeritus at Southpoint is very active with our local Alzheimer’s Association, the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer care, support and research. As part of this, our staff participates in its annual Memory Walk, raising money each year for this important association. We also lead support groups every third Thursday of the month. These groups are open to the public, family members and friends, as well as to local professionals who work with the memory impaired. Social workers, hospital discharge planners, home health agencies and other local professionals who work with seniors are also invited to special lunches or spa nights, which we offer just for them. For example, during a recent spa night, they enjoyed chair massages, facials and other spa services provided free of charge, while also having the opportunity to find out more about the benefits of referring their clients to Emeritus at Southpoint.
Fine Dining
Residents are given printed menus each day, offering a main entrée and an alternative. In addition, they can ask in advance for a deli sandwich, salad, grilled cheese, eggs made to order, and omelets. When it comes to meals, we never compromise their choice, and in fact, we offer what we call “Residents’ Choice” once a month, when residents let us know what they’d like us to prepare for dinner. Dinner is served, restaurant style, on fine China with linen napkins – just as if they were going to a nice upscale restaurant every day. And we offer them dinners; for example, we recently had a Western Night, Italian Night, Mexican Fiesta, Luau, Caribbean Night and Soul Food Night. We can also accommodate special diets, including puree diets for residents who have difficulty chewing, as well as a carbohydrate-controlled diet for residents with diabetes or borderline diabetes. Snacks, including fresh-backed cookies, muffins and fresh fruit are always available in our lobby. And we offer a Hydration Station, with iced lemon water and fruit, to help keep residents hydrated – so important, especially here in Florida.
