Camellia Home Health & Hospice - Vicksburg
A place where a person can immerse themselves in the solitude of their own thoughts.
About Us
Somewhere one can go to sit and quietly reflect on the world around and within them, a place where a person can immerse themselves in the solitude of their own thoughts as they mingle with the sounds of nature, a quiet spot that invites tranquility and peace….that is exactly what the staff and volunteers of Camellia Hospice of Vidalia and Natchez had in mind when they began work on a community prayer garden. In the spirit of giving back to its community, Camellia Hospice strives for continued service to our patients and their families, as well as the communities we serve. The Community Prayer Garden which has been established on the Vidalia Riverfront near Promise Hospital is exactly that, a love gift to the people of the Miss Lou area. Camellia Hospice in conjunction with local businesses created a sanctuary where the people of our community can escape if only for a few minutes into an area filled with some of natures’ most beautiful handiwork.
Camellia is committed to watching the garden grow over the years and to its becoming a permanent fixture along the river walk of the majestic Mississippi River on the Riverfront. The staff and volunteers of Camellia Hospice of Vidalia and Natchez would like to thank the community sponsors who helped to make the garden a reality. Generous contributions from Wagner Gravel, Upton’s Nursery, Home Hardware Centers, Stine’s Lumber Company, Vaughn’s City Drugs, and Sonic of Natchez helped to bring the prayer garden to fruition. We look forward to not only watching as our community enjoys the garden but also to our continued service to the people of the Miss Lou.
Home Health Care
Home Health Care is skilled nursing care and certain other health care services that you get in your home for the treatment of an illness or injury. This page explains Medicare’s basic home health benefit and gives you information about where to get more information and help.
To get Medicare home health care:
- Your doctor must decide that you need medical care in your home, and make a plan for your care at home; and
- You must need at least one of the following: intermittent (and not full time) skilled nursing care, or physical therapy or speech language pathology services; and
- You must be homebound. This means that you are normally unable to leave home. Being homebound means that leaving home is a major effort. When you leave home, it must be infrequent, for a short time, or to get medical care; and
- The home health agency caring for you must be approved by the Medicare program.
Hospice Services
Physician Services
The patient’s hospice care is coordinated through the patient’s primary physician and hospice medical director. The scope of hospice services and any medical equipment and medications needed by the patient are provided as ordered by the patient’s primary physician and the hospice medical director. Our hospice medical director in conjunction with the patient’s primary physician certifies the patient’s eligibility for hospice services.
Nursing Services
Our registered nurses coordinate the patient’s care and handle any nursing needs as they arise. Our goal is to help prevent and relieve pain and other symptoms associated with the patient’s illness, and to teach caregivers ways to assist the patient such as medication dispensing, nutritional needs and/or limitations, safety issues, and comfort and support measures. Your hospice nurse also ensures that necessary medical supplies and equipment are ordered, and consults with the hospice medical director and patient’s primary physician on a regular routine basis about the patient’s status and any condition changes. As we keep the patient and caregivers informed about their care, we encourage our patients and caregivers to participate in the planning for the patient’s end of life care.
Social Services
A hospice social worker is assigned to every patient to assist the patient and their family/caregiver with a variety of support services such as (1) emotional support, counseling and guidance in coping with stress related to the patient’s condition; (2) identify community resources available and appropriate for the patient and/or caregiver; and (3) provides information about advance directives and assistance with funeral arrangements or any type of placement possibly needed.
Chaplain Services
Hospice spiritual care is based on a high respect for the patient’s and caregiver’s personal faith and belief. Our chaplains are available to assist patients and families cope with any spiritual issues that often arise during end of life care - as much or as little as requested. Chaplain’s services include regular pastoral care visits or at a time of crisis, conducting funerals and memorial services as requested, and contacting a patient’s own minister for additional support if desired. Our hospice chaplains do not impose their personal religious beliefs or seek to change the beliefs of others.
Aide Services
All of our hospice aides provide personal care to our patients under the supervision of a registered nurse. Personal care services delivered by our hospice aides includes bathing, dressing, grooming, caring for hair, nail and oral hygiene as well as skin care, foot care, ear care that are important for the patient’s health, changing linens, feeding assistance, and ambulation and transfer assistance. Other incidental services may be provided such as light cleaning, meal preparation, and laundry assistance as time permits after all personal care has been given.
Bereavement Services
Our Bereavement Program is an important part of our hospice care, and offers individual and group support to those who are anticipating, or have experienced, the loss of a loved one. Camellia’s team of Social Workers and Chaplains assist families and caregivers during this emotionally difficult time. Our Chaplains have specialized training in pastoral care to provide effective emotional support and both religious and non-religious spiritual support. Our Social Workers have specialized training that enables them to provide excellent emotional support to our families and caregivers.
