American Parkinson Disease Association Massachusetts
Our Mission is to Ease the Burden and Find the Cure
The Massachusetts Chapter is a Chapter of the American Parkinson Disease Association. The job of the Massachusetts Chapter is to accomplish the mission of the APDA through the grass-roots efforts of its members. Those goals are to ease the burden and to find the cure. To that end, we seek to educate those interested in learning more about Parkinson's disease, to assist support groups throughout the State, to help develop programs to meet the needs of Parkinson's patients and their caregivers and to raise funds to find the cure. While a few of us can accomplish some of these goals, most of them require the support and involvement of people like you. The Chapter is an all volunteer organization.
The Information and Referral Center, established by the American Parkinson Disease Association in 1980, serves as a resource for those with Parkinson’s disease, their loved ones and healthcare providers. The Center serves patients, caregivers, healthcare providers and the greater community regardless of their affiliation with Boston University Medical Center or any other medical facility.
The Center is a ready source of the best and most current information about Parkinson’s disease, and offers educational materials, regional conferences and other resource materials for those who seek it.
The APDA Massachusetts Chapter organizes several events each year. Major fundraisers include an annual walk for research as well as the "Putt for Parkinson's" Celebrity Golf Tournament.
The Mass Chapter supports and co-sponsors the educational programs developed by the APDA Information and Referral Center. Educational initiatives include an annual "Good Start Program" a three part lecture series for newly diagnosed individuals and their families. This takes place in the fall. In addition the annual Winchester symposium is held the first Thursday in June. Every other year, the APDA New England Regional Conference takes place in Sturbridge.
