Why Not Assisted Living?!

Stronger Than Ever!

Among today’s living options for seniors, assisted living facilities (ALFs) are stronger than ever! They provide seniors with the ability to remain active, and offer enhanced services to help seniors with life’s daily tasks. Special activities include themed meal service, free wireless internet, and therapeutic exercise programs utilizing Wii programming. Wellness programs, including on-site physicians, are what make the assisted living choice so wonderful. With a range of financially reasonable options, assisted living facilities are fast becoming a perfect choice for many seniors.

Assisted Living Defined

Assisted living is, as the name implies, based on a model of assistance rather than the provision of medical care. Assisted living provides a social model of care: meaning there are some clear and defining differences between assisted living and the clinical environment found in a skilled nursing facility (SNF). ALFs are able to provide supervision of day-to-day tasks, including but not limited to: bathing, dressing, medication administration, and toileting. Residents are comforted with the knowledge that assistance is available 24 hours a day. ALFs provide services that are based on individual care plans for residents that are guided by physician’s orders and the needs of the individual.

Adding Life to Your Years

Today’s assisted living facilities offer a wide range of stimulating, interactive events and activities for seniors. Clinical studies continue to show that opportunities involving ongoing socialization can work wonders regarding a senior’s psychological and physical health. Outings, exercise classes, game nights, crafts, and music represent only a fraction of the possibilities that are available and encouraged for residents of assisted living facilities.

Pay Only for The Care You Need

Monthly ALF rates are based on daily charges. Some facilities may use incremental level charges, wherein the grouping of many services determines the cost and care of the resident. Be aware that many facilities may only have three or four choice level charges, while others have as many as seven or eight. The “pay for points” assessment program, on the other hand, allows for the greatest degree of flexibility. In this program, residents pay only for the services they need or desire; if a resident’s need for services changes over time, the assessment changes. Point charges are added to a facility’s base rate, which covers the ALF’s basic services: weekly housekeeping, laundry, meals, and utilities.

One Size Does Not Fit All

Whether care services are calculated by incremental service levels or care points, monthly costs may range anywhere from $1,900 to $4,500 a month depending on the individual’s choice of floor plans. The wide range of floor plans is one reason why ALFs have become so popular. One and two bedroom floor plans as well as studio floor plans are available, complete with full kitchens and walk-in closets.

Fun, Energetic, and Engaging

Understanding the concept of assisted living is an important part of navigating a difficult transition. Why not assisted living? Exactly. Why not? Assisted living facilities are fun, energetic, and engaging places for today’s senior. The social model of care makes this plan a great choice for seniors and their families.
